Set up LingoWait: installation, permissions and privacy
LingoWait is free and works in ChatGPT on desktop Chrome. Here is what to expect during setup, what the browser permissions are for and how to stay in control.
Install and choose your practice
Follow the link to the official Chrome Web Store listing, select Add to Chrome and confirm. Open or refresh an existing ChatGPT tab. Choose your learning language, difficulty and Work, Travel or Everyday theme in LingoWait’s settings. No separate LingoWait account is needed.
Send a normal ChatGPT request. The practice panel appears during generation after the configured delay. It folds into a small bar when the answer is ready. Use the toggle in settings whenever you want to turn practice off.
Understand the requested permissions
Storage saves your preferences and learning progress in your local Chrome profile. Scripting lets LingoWait restore its included code in a supported ChatGPT tab when needed. Website access is limited to chatgpt.com and the older chat.openai.com address.
To detect an ongoing response, LingoWait observes interface activity and generation controls. It does not read or record the text of your prompts or answers. The browser’s permission warning describes the access granted; this explanation describes how LingoWait uses that access.
Separate learning data from website analytics
Exercises and learning records stay on your device. The extension does not send your practice history or conversations to Google Analytics. The website asks separately for permission to measure visits and store-link clicks. Declining website analytics does not prevent using LingoWait.
If you choose to send feedback, your selected reason and comment are submitted to the publisher. Do not include chat transcripts or sensitive information. The full privacy policy explains retention and contact options.
If no exercise appears
Check that you are on the ChatGPT website in desktop Chrome, that LingoWait is enabled, and that you refreshed any tab already open before installation. Send a new request and allow for your selected delay. A response that finishes quickly may not trigger an exercise.
If ChatGPT itself is stuck, troubleshoot that first. LingoWait cannot fix a service outage. To remove LingoWait, open Chrome’s extensions manager and choose Remove; locally stored extension data is removed with it, while files you exported remain on your device.

Ask ChatGPT a question. A short language exercise appears while the response is generated. When the answer is ready, LingoWait shrinks and saves your progress.
